Mission Statement

Welcome to the official website of the Connecticut Criminal Justice Educational and Charitable Association Incorporated.

The Connecticut Criminal Justice Educational and Charitable Association Incorporated is a nonprofit corporation that was formed under Connecticut law in 2001.  The corporation, known as CCJECA, was formed exclusively for the promotion of education and benevolence through various charitable endeavors.  CCJECA qualifies under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and is governed by Corporate Officers and a Board of Directors made up of employees from various branches of the Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice.

The Association operates through various committees that have been charged with carrying out its programs and activities.  Donations and various fund raising endeavors, including the sale of logo memorabilia, finance the activities of the Association.  The two cornerstone programs of the Association are the John M. Bailey Memorial Scholarship Program and the Division of Criminal Justice Awards Program.

Each year college scholarships are awarded to deserving students from the State of Connecticut who demonstrate outstanding qualities in the pursuit of their education.  The awards are based on character and leadership in both school and the community, as well as scholastic aptitude.  Details, qualifications, and applications for the scholarship program are located on the scholarship page of this website.

The Awards Program provides a means of honoring outstanding employees within the Division of Criminal Justice who have made exceptional contributions in the pursuit of justice.  Employees are recognized in the categories of Prosecutor of the Year, Employee of the Year, Lifetime Achievement Award, and Special Recognition.  Past award recipients are listed on the awards page of this site.

The Connecticut Criminal Justice and Charitable Association, through its activities, strives to preserve the heritage, history, and pride of the Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice.  The concept of public prosecution is rooted in Connecticut.   Over three hundred years ago, the Queen of England appointed Richard Edwards as the first prosecutor in the country known as the Attorney for the Queen, here in Connecticut.  That appointment established the concept that crimes are not only afflicted against individuals but, against society in general.  Today, this  Association recognizes the excellence, tireless dedication, and honor of the hundreds of employees in their daily pursuit of justice.

The Association relies on many of these dedicated employees to administer the day to day activities of this organization.  We encourage all past or present employees to consider becoming involved with one or more of the many committees.  Volunteers are always welcome.  Please take time to browse our website and be sure to visit the membership page.  Your thoughts are encouraged and always appreciated.  Do not hesitate to contact any member of the Board of Directors for more information.
